DETROIT – There will be no charges in a double fatal shooting at a Detroit Lions tailgate on Sunday; the shooter acted in self-defense, authorities said. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced Wednesday evening that there is not sufficient evidence to charge the 40-year-old shooter with any crime.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has ruled a fatal shooting at an Eastern Market tailgate as self-defense, resulting in no charges filed against the shooter.

It is absolutely tragic that during all the fun and merrymaking at a Lions tailgate that two lives were lost,” Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy said.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy determined that no charges would be issued against the 40-year-old shooter in connection with the tailgate tragedy of Jalen Welch, 25, and Rayshawn Palmer, 40, both of Detroit.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said the man accused of the shooting acted in self defense during the Lions game-day incident at Eastern Market.

The shooting occurred on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 4:30 p.m. around Shed 6 in Eastern Market in the 2800 block of Russell Street.
