Teachers at Greater Albany Public Schools have gone on strike after weeks of negotiations did not result in agreement between the union and the school district administration.

Although negotiations on a new contract continue, Albany schools will be closed on Tuesday as teachers turned in their keys and personal items last Friday in case a strike occurred.

Unions representing the majority of teachers in Northern Ireland are to ballot their members on strike action. The NASUWT, INTO and UTU have said they are holding the vote due to the lack of "a satisfactory pay offer for 2024-25".
