The Full Beaver Supermoon gets its name because it tends to happen around the same time as when beavers start to take shelter in their lodges, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. It’s also historically when hunters would trap beavers for their pelts.

Though officially full on Friday, November 15, at 4:29 p.m. EST, the moon will also look plenty full and bright all night both Thursday and Saturday.

Skygazers will soon be able to see the moon appear larger and brighter than normal for the last time until next year. The fourth and final supermoon of 2024 will reach peak illumination at 3:28 p.m. CT on Friday,
