The parents of Bobby Smallwood, the security guard shot and killed last year at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center, sued the hospital Monday, arguing that it put their son in mortal danger by failing to enforce basic workplace violence prevention protocols.

Multnomah County Circuit Court, names the hospital and its parent organization, Portland-based Legacy Health, as defendants. It alleges that the defendants' inadequate policies, refusal to enforce policies and lack of communication caused the death of 44-year-old Bobby Smallwood.
