Jan 30, 2016 · This really depends on what time period you are discussing. In general, what has set SSA and North Africa apart are the global spheres within which they operate. North Africa was fixed in the Mediterranean world while East Africa was part of the Indian Ocean world, West Africa eventually became part of the Atlantic world etc.
