easy/safe to weld exhaust pipe with propane torch?
Jul 26, 2011 · Home depot is right down the street, and they have a propane torch for about 13 bucks, a stainless steel brush for 2.50, and copper pipe couplings are really cheap too. so for about the same price as the welding shop, I can do this at home myself. I was thinking of using copper pipe couplings because that might make it easier for me.

Jan 24, 2010 · 3/32" flux-coated bronze brazing rod has worked great on the last 2000+ mufflers I have done. Use a #0 tip, set regs at 5psi acetylene, 5psi oxygen. If you buy rod in 3 ft lengths, take your flame and cut them in half, easier to work with. When you get down to short pieces, butt them up and braze them together so you never waste rod.

Aug 5, 2013 · Some have used copper pipe and fittings but you'll need to know how to use high temperature solder (brazing alloy) because soft, or plumbing solder, won't take the vibration or heat close to the engine. The old handlebar suggestion is also a good one that many have used. Again you'll need some welding done to do it properly. Tom

May 7, 2009 · My exhaust pipe is painted black and I had to bend it. I have a good propane torch, but it didn’t put out enough heat to get the pipe hot enough. I had to use an oxyacetylene setup with a broad, hot flame similar to what I use for brazing to bend it.
