The greater the pitch of the roof the more difficult your project will become as well as the price tag. Engineering will be necessary to factor in the lateral push on your exterior walls.

Mar 1, 2021 · I'm not an ICF pro, but I did my own house with ICF (Nudura) and Insuldeck about 7 years ago. The Insuldeck was fairly straightforward and fits well with the ICF. Overall, I was happy with the construction process and the end results. I had a pretty standard sloped roof, so went with a traditional lumber frame for it.

Your typical hurricane tie only has a hold down strength of 200-500#, and the last couple ICF houses we used Simpson Strong-Tie LTA2s with a hold down of 1210#. What insulation does the SIP have, if it has the typical EPS foam it would be closer to 48 for an R-value. EPS is what I would use.

Dec 9, 2017 · I would recommend the ICF-Connect system for floor systems and Simpson Strong Tie for decks (be careful - I have been told that this is not allowed in some areas). Be sure to protect the metal plates in either of these systems from coming in direct contact with Treated lumber, however, as this will react and could cause corrosion.

Aug 6, 2012 · I considered a pour-in-place ICF roof but want a slope greater than 4:12 pitch (for looks and practicality - flat roof requires maintenance to avoid leaks) which isn't doable with ICF unless you go pre-cast (or ground-built) and lift with a crane. ICF roof seems like overkill for what I need -- I don't live in a fire or hurricane zone.

The roof is is actually stronger in high winds with the Icf walls due to the fact that the walls do not flex or allow air in creating suction on the roof and preventing it from being blown off.
